We sponsor Handel’s Messiah Concert
Bridging Classics of the Past with Classics of the Future is a concert that provides an opportunity to have classical music presented annually by local participants. Out of tradition and training these participants look forward to connect and per-form Handel’s Messiah in Brownsville/Liberty City. Participants come from all over Miami-Dade County along with presentations by contemporary artists to attract, develop, widen and cultivate a more youthful audience’s appreciation of varying genres of music.
The Concert nurtures the appreciation of the mature audience that already exists in this African/American community. Soloists range from a high school soprano of Haitian American descent to a renowned retired professional performing vocalist/vocal professor of African-American descent. To insure the success of this Sunday afternoon program, a com-munity choir is organized beginning in September to rehearse three times a week in three locations consisting of South Dade, Liberty City, and Florida Memorial University until the performance on December 15, 2013.
Last year more than (80+) volunteers made up the voices in the choir including chorale students majoring in music from Florida Memorial University. The four paid soloists and twenty-four string orchestra members are also determined and selected by Dr. Nelson Hall, conductor. In addition, the audience will also be entertained by internationally- known aca-pella singing group, “Undivided” and jazz vocalist, Cynthia Strachan Saunders during the “future” portion of the concert.
