Taking the Torch… Fighting the Fight

Come celebrate MLK Day on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Historic Hampton House, the Green Book hotel, now museum, iconically known during the Civil Rights era as “The Social Center of the South”, the very place and room where Martin Luther King Jr. stayed and drafted his “I Have a Dream” speech. There’s no better place in Miami for you to reflect on Dr. King’s life, legacy, and the work we must continues today.

The MLK Day Film Festival: “Taking the Torch…Finishing the Fight”— Explore and commemorate the life of Dr. King through three powerful films, meaningful conversations, and impactful gathering at Dr. King’s most legendary Miami Civil Rights landmark, the Historic Hampton House Museum of Culture & Art.

Screen just one film or make it a 3-Movie Marathon and stay for the entire day! Each film, curated to explore a different chapter of Dr. King’s journey, will be followed by a powerful discussion, creating a space to share thoughts and connect. Bring your family, a date or a group of friends and enjoy guided museum tours, free movie popcorn and concessions or stick around where small bites and cocktails are available from our bar.

VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are an integral part of the success of the Historic Hampton House operations and programming. Each year, volunteers ranging in age from 14 to 90, contribute their time and talents in a variety of ways within the areas of guest relations, education, membership, marketing, operations, gardening, events and more. Our volunteers are a major force in fulfilling our mission to educate and inspire the public. We literally couldn’t do it without them!

When you volunteer at the museum, the opportunities are vast. Training is provided and volunteers receive special benefits for their service.

The Historic Hampton House seeks volunteers from all backgrounds. A background in history is not required for most volunteer opportunities.
